A key point of Art All Around Us is to provide those in the Bronx and beyond with information about exactly that: “Art All Around Us.”
But in the last six weeks I’ve blown my goal of writing every two weeks. No good excuse, which is kinda useless to readers even if a good excuse existed.
I will return to consistency. I’m grateful I began doing this newsletter (back in February beginning on Mail Chimp) especially because so many of you expressed your interest in it and shared such useful feedback. I’m committed to “Art All Around Us,” growing it in readership and substance, as well as publishing it at least every two weeks going forth.
As for my artwork, I have three pieces in a members’ show at the Blue Door Art Center in Yonkers. The opening is this Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. I’ll be there from around 2 to 4:30 p.m. All the details here.
Speaking of which, here’s my abstract art piece in the show (the other two pieces are photographs):
Blue Door Art Center is just a great place to get to know kind, talented, interesting, helpful and creative people. There are often members’ gatherings and events and I’ve learned a lot from so many people who take part. If you need a place to show your art, take art classes, read your poetry and so much more, check it out!
In addition to the exhibit above, what’s all around us during the next couple of weeks? Heres just a few of many cool, creative happenings all around us:
This must-see Darrel Ellis exhibit at the Bronx Museum of the Arts is on until Sept. 10. I shared my passion about it in my last newsletter. (Bronx Museum is always free by the way, and easy to get to on D- and 4-trains as well as BX1 and BX2 buses).
I introduced you to the work of native Bronxite Andrew Boryga in my last edition (second to last paragraph). Loved his most recent post as well, about being a creative self— former journalist who has a novel coming out next spring! — yet taking a useful break from his creativity while with his family and kiddos. Check it out.
There are many cool exhibits in play at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers and I especially look forward to seeing Collection Spotlight: Abstraction 1950 to 1980 show and Collection Spotlight: The Art of Skywatching. And you probably haven’t seen all these hula hoops all at once!
At Soundview Park this Sunday: Art at the Sound: Photo and Poetry Workshop.
Do you know about the Poor Mouth’s writers’ night, at An Beal Bocht in Riverdale? It’s an open mic for all kinds of writing (poetry, stories, etc.) with a featured writer very time. More info here.
OK, I’ll issue my next newsletter on July 27. If you see any of the creative happenings above or come across anything you dig in the Bronx, Westchester or northern Manhattan, let me know about your passions and I’ll try to include some of what you share in my next edition.
Happy Summer Everyone!
Keep it coming. Thanks again. Fe
