I haven’t shared my art interests and findings for several weeks. But, beginning in early January, I’m committed to provide my take — via a regular schedule I’ll soon announce — on artwork of all kinds in the Bronx and beyond.
For now, though, I thought I’d share a few art shows and other related happenings:
Every year, the Bronx Council on the Arts gives out BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) grants of $5,000 to Bronx artists in pretty much all areas: media, literary, visual and performing arts. I’ve applied a couple of times. Didn’t get it, but I’ll be applying every year until I do. You should too! To check it out and apply by Dec. 26, go here. To learn more about all the Bronx Council on the Arts does, go here.
You can see the abstract work of Jancie Demarino at Gallery 505 in Riverdale through Dec. 29. The next opening reception will be for a timely exhibit, Tibbets En Plein Air by Noal Efele will be on Jan. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. FREE! (More info on plan for Tibbets Brook Daylighting in Van Cortlandt Park here.)
I was at the Neuberger Museum (which is FREE) at Purchase College lat week (about half an hour from north Bronx). Hadn’t bee there since before COVID. Really wonderful work there of many different kinds. Here’s a piece I particularly liked by Eric Aho in “Then and Now: Selections from the Collection.”
At Bronx Museum of the Arts is “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” through Jan. 7 and a screening, discussion and exhibition walkthrough on Jan. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. FREE!
I hope every school in the Bronx learns about what the Bronx Documentary Center can provide to classes. Check it out. And if you are into documentary photography and films you just have to visit BDC!
Happy Holidays and New Year to all of you! I look forward to connecting with you early in the New Year!

What a photo from last year! It always pays to look up, doesn’t it? Nice to have you back, but no pressure from me. :-)
