Hey Everyone,
This is a little late in the game, but my wife and I saw an incredible new play last night, “Baya Con Dios,” at the beautiful Pregones/PRTT Theatre in the South Bronx. There’s just one more performance, today (Sun.) at 3 PM. It’s by Cyril Amanfo, a young playwright who is part of the theatre’s STEP UP in Residence Program. A key ingredient of the play is the beautiful dancing, a significant part of the story. Here’s Pregones’s description of the performance:
In the Bronx, a Puerto Rican father and a Nigerian mother raise their beautiful daughter. Mama runs a dance school, and Chimdi Elena blossoms into a devoted daughter and magnificent dancer. On the eve of Chimdi Elena’s quinceañera, Mama is very ill, and Chimdi Elena is asked to make the ultimate sacrifice by her dying mother. Incorporating dance and lots of heart, BAYA CON DIOS recounts how a loving family copes with loss and comes out stronger on the other side.
By the way, it’s only $12 a ticket!
If you do indeed see it today, let me know what you think: aaaubronx@gmail.com
Have a great Sunday!
